Pittakos

Pittakos

One of the Seven Sages of antiquity was Pittakos, and he was from Mitilini (648 B.C). He was devoted to public service and was associated with the aristocracy. He fought in many wars and eventually he became a General. It is said that he had an adamant character and was characterised with decency. He introduced many new laws and granted amnesty to his enemies and that because he believed that forgiveness is better than punishment. He ruled for ten years, relinquishing power with his own free will. The citizens of Mitilini, when he decided to leave public life, presented him with a piece of land, the ???Pittakean plot. From this, he kept only an area, since he believed that a fair amount is more than enough
