The monastery of Taxiarches of Eressos (or Eresos)
The monastery of Pithari, as it is mainly known, is close to Eressos. There are two scenarios about its establishment. According to the first one, the monastery is a Byzantine monastery and was reconstituted during the Ottoman domination. On the other hand, the second scenario determines its date around the 16th century. During the last centuries the monastery presented a decline, but during the last years, with His Reverence Metropolitan Iakovos the 3rd of Mitilini as torchbearer, an effort of renovation and restoration of the monastery is made. The monastery is dedicated to the Taxiarches (archangels), whose festival day is November 8th.
