Other Museums
The Museum of Costume and Embroidery of Lesvos – This is another achievement of the Women’s Association of Lesvos. The whole spectrum of attire from the past century, male and female, is displayed in its rooms, in a building on Komninaki Street.
There are also, the Archeological Museums of Eressos and Mithymna which exhibit the ancient past of these city states and the Gogo Museum of Vatoussa which exhibits different aspects of Village life, with historical photos, clothing, utensils and a gallery of local artists. In the village of Plomari is located the Barbayannis Ouzo Museum and in the village of Vrissa is the Museum of Natural History which holds a recent and extraordinary discovery of Palaeolithic fossils, unique not only to Greece but to all of Europe. The Leimonos Monastery, which is near Kalloni, exhibits many ecclesiastic treasures and notable specimens of folk art. The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest is one of the most fascinating museums in Lesvos, and one of the newest. It is located in Sigri, at the top of the village. In the museum there are splendid examples of petrified wood and one can notice the geologic history of the island through the museum’s exhibits.
